Invasive plants are the single-biggest long-term threat to South Africa’s water security and biological diversity.  Additionally, they have massive impacts on several other factors detrimental to our environment such as soil erosion, siltation, flooding, the loss of productive land, loss of ecosystem services, and the functioning of natural systems.

Natural Homes uses the various properties of alien invasive species with recycled plastic and paper to create a net carbon-negative building material. It serves as light-weight aggregate in a high-quality, load-bearing biomass insulated concrete which is half the weight of conventional concrete. The product has a number of other benefits with a 3-hour fire rating, thermal insulation properties, and sound absorption properties.
